The Broad Center for the Biological Sciences is located at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena and was completed in 2002. It measures 120,000 square feet, with five floors.
The building’s lead designer was James Freed of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, an international firm well-known for its work on the John F. Kennedy Library; John Hancock Tower; U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.; the Museum of Modern Art in Athens; Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong; the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland; and, the expansion and modernization of The Louvre in Paris.
On the interior, embossed sheet metal for the wall panels accent the travertine walls. The exterior front section of the building is also clad in embossed stainless steel. The balance of the building is accented with the same.
